My Project
Storyworks is a magazine for young readers that comes to our classroom in full color print and can also be viewed digitally. This is great for differentiating instruction as some students prefer reading online. Each copy contains both fiction and nonfiction passages that are very relevant and introduce students to great vocabulary and background knowledge. Background knowledge and vocabulary are both so important and are very often what hinders comprehension for many students.
Every issue of Storyworks correlates with the learning standards for second grade, includes skills practice that is fun and engaging for kids, and has extension activities that promote even further learning.
Having Storyworks will provide me, as a teacher, a great way to provide reading instruction at varying levels using a multitude of story types that will interest everyone. Storyworks provides several topics and genres in order to reach all students.
I plan to use Storyworks alongside our core curriculum. I used this resource last year and saw remarkable results! I am eager to see what a difference it will make in our classroom.
