This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very eager learners! Our day is full of active and engaging lessons that help students accomplish their academic goals. As a teacher, I want to help my students achieve success and exceed their potential by getting them excited and involved in their learning.

My students are curious, eager to learn, and love being at school!

My school is a Title I school of 368 students with 157 of them being Hispanic. Many of our students are ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Languages) and work very hard to achieve great academic strides. All of our students really love to be at school because they are engaged in a safe, loving, learning environment. My job truly is so very rewarding and the students make teaching easy because they have a strong desire to learn!

My Project

I will use the Storyworks magazine in my classroom each week. We will use it in whole group and small group instruction. The students will see persuasive, informative and descriptive types of writing. We can also integrate the magazine into math on certain topics. The students will also be able to read the magazine to one another and silently to themselves. There are many activities that can be done in the magazines that are fun and educational at the same time. I will also use it to supplement reading for the students to see authentic text. My students will be able to grow as readers and writers through this amazing resource.

The donations from this project will not only expand my classroom resources for ELA but it will offer my students text that they can relate to and help awaken their own creativity and imagination.

After reading these magazines, students will be able to understand and experience things that they may not have otherwise been able to. They will be able to grow in reading and writing and have fun along the way.
