Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school eager and excited to learn. We are a low income/high poverty school, and all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Most of my students are learning English as a second language, and have limited exposure to English at home.

Today is the day to smile and learn something new!

I start every day with that statement to remind them that every day is as important and special as they are. I am amazed in all that they learn and do.

My Project

Each day my students look forward to story time. They enjoy visiting new places, meeting new friends, and learning skills through stories. My goal is to instill a love of reading in my students, and storytelling is the perfect way to do it.

Young learners love story time.

The storytelling materials I am requesting will help bring our stories to life! Students will gain additional meaning about characters and story plots by retelling the story with actual images or illustrations from the book. Tools like the Storytelling Glove and Storytelling Lapbaord will help my students gain confidence, vocabulary, and language skills as they retell stories with their peers.
