Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every week I have the pleasure and the honor of spending one period with three classes of remarkable teen boys in the autism program. Some of the students are non verbal; others are lively and animated. One of my favorite activities is to read books with them, facilitate afterwards an engaging discussion about the themes and pictures, engage them with a related activity, and then give them time to check out a book on their own.
Since this is a high school, I realize I don't have many appropriate picture book-sized texts for this population.
Therefore, I am so grateful to you for considering my project to help me bolster our collection of interactive and classic picture books to spark their imaginations, improve their critical thinking skills and language comprehension, and create a class bond through the joy of literature.
