Stories That Stick: Picture Books For Middle School Mathematicians
Help me give my students engaging picture books that bring math concepts to life, spark their curiosity, and make learning math a fun and imaginative adventure.
Who says picture books are just for little kids? Imagine a math classroom where numbers come alive through beautifully illustrated stories. Picture books aren't just for reading class—they’re incredible tools for teaching mathematical concepts in creative, engaging ways. With your support, I can bring a collection of math-focused picture books into our classroom to inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and connect math to real-world experiences.
I’m requesting a variety of picture books that explore math concepts such as geometry, fractions, measurement, and problem-solving.
Some examples include One Grain of Rice: A Mathematical Folktale, Sir Cumference and the Fraction Faire by Cindy Neuschwander, and One Grain of Rice by Demi. These books will serve as entry points for lessons, collaborative discussions, and hands-on activities that make math more approachable and enjoyable.
Picture books offer a creative way to present math concepts through relatable stories and vivid illustrations. They make abstract ideas tangible, showing students how math is woven into everyday life. These books also encourage critical thinking and help students develop problem-solving skills while fostering a love of learning.
My students are bright and enthusiastic, but many of them find math challenging or intimidating. By integrating picture books into our lessons, I aim to create a positive and inclusive math environment where all learners feel empowered. These books will spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students see the beauty and utility of math in the world around them.
Thank you for believing in the power of stories to transform how students experience math. Your support will make a lasting impact in my classroom!
