Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As part of our Wellness Library initiative, students will take an active leadership role in promoting mental health, emotional literacy, and self-care practices throughout our school and local community. They will begin by organizing the library space itself—selecting, categorizing, and labeling books and materials that focus on mental wellness, mindfulness, resilience, and social-emotional growth. Students will collaborate to create an inviting, calming environment where their peers can comfortably access resources for support and personal growth.

Beyond organizing the space, students will lead awareness campaigns around the importance of mental wellness.

The book kits and social emotional books will directly contribute to a more holistic educational experience by promoting literacy while also nurturing essential life skills. They will design posters, create short videos, and host classroom presentations or school-wide announcements to promote the library and reduce the stigma around mental health conversations. Some students will be trained as peer ambassadors to mentor others on how to use wellness tools from the library effectively, fostering a culture of empathy and support across grade levels.

This project goes far beyond benefiting just our classroom. By giving students leadership in curating and promoting wellness resources, they are empowered to be changemakers who serve their broader school community. Their actions help ensure that all students, including those struggling silently, have access to judgment-free tools for coping and healing. In mentoring and supporting others, students are learning compassion, communication, and advocacy skills that extend well beyond the classroom and into their lives as future leaders.

Ultimately, this initiative encourages a ripple effect of care—students helping students, peer-to-peer support, and a stronger, more connected school community centered on wellbeing.
