Do you remember trying to see the teacher's picture book from the back row of your Kindergarten class? With 15 students crowded on a small carpet, not all of them get to see the pictures that accompany the story I am reading aloud. That does not have to happen anymore!
My students are young 5 years old, some of whom have never been read to before.
Our elementary school is in a small rural school district. We have a large population of non-English speakers, nearly 40% of my class, and several students with special needs. It is difficult at times for all of them to see, really see, the illustrations in the picture books I am reading to the class.
My Project
I want an ELMO document camera so that everyone of my students can see the illustrations, close up, with all the details. As I said before, some of these kids have Never been read to, let alone seen the wonderful illustrations that accompany the picture books I read to them. With this camera, I can project the book on the white board and read to the class. Every student will be able to see every picture, every detail, every illustration, even those students who have vision difficulties. In addition, the students who may not understand the words I am reading will be able to benefit from the illustrations, illustrations that always help tell the story. They will be able to learn concepts of print, sequence of events, and the pure joy of story telling.
If you donate to this project, you will be making a difference in the life of a young child.
You could be responsible for making a non-reader a reader, a student who does not like school love it, and change a child's life in the process. Every student deserves a chance to enjoy a picture book. Please help me help them.
