My Students
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Brooklyn. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Mandarin, Russian,Uzbek and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.
Our students are 30 fourth graders in a Title 1 school in Brooklyn, New York.
Our students are English Language Learners. Some of them have various disabilities, such as Speech and Language, Learning Disabilities, and Autism. I try to meet their learning needs and give them the best educational experiences possible and a place to call home. It is an integrated co-teaching classroom, where students with disabilities are mainstreamed with general education students. We also have 2 bilingual students in our room.
Our classroom this year is decorated in bright colors like pink, neon green, purple and blue. We like to keep the classroom bright and vivid colors. I feel children with special needs learn best when you have a warm and welcoming classroom. We are asking for necessary supplies to get the students started.
My Project
The storage cabinets will be so helpful. The classroom we have now was an old literacy room. There is no storage for the daily things that children need to have a conducive learning experience. We are working with very limited storage space, as well as space to keep the students things. Students will need to hang their coats in a closet with no doors to keep it neat looking. This project will be very useful to help keep the daily things students need to have a successful day neatly put away and give them a home. This will ensure that children will know where to go to get the items that will be stored in the this beautiful storage unit.
