This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all delightful children with various disabilities, but each one has a smile that will melt your heart. I work with children diagnosed with autism, cognitive impairment, communication impairment, and specific learning disability.
My students are all a joy to work with, each having their own strengths and weaknesses.
Some of my students are verbal, others communicate with gestures, pictures, and some sign. I love to help them find their way to communicate. I love to see the glitter in their eye when they make an achievement or make their needs and wants known. I love to be the one to provide them with what it is that they desire when they ultimately communicate!
My Project
These materials will help my students be able to access toys by categories. I work with children with autism and some love certain toys over other toys. For example, my therapy room needs toys to be organized by type, e.g. Pokemon, My Little Pony, cooking, Shopkins, etc. The drawers need to be portable as well. These drawers will help keep the toys organized by type and the children can move the drawers to different areas on the floor or on the table. This will help tremendously with time factors as well so the children do not have to search for which toy set they want to play with.
