I teach Physical Education at an elementary school located in North Miami. My students now have recess in addition to PE, which means that the demand for physical education supplies has almost doubled in order to accommodate all students.
My school has a high number of students who were affected after Hurricane Irma devastated our community and now we are welcoming students from Puerto Rico who were displaced by Hurricane Maria.
My school also has a high number of students who are high poverty, ESOL, and ELL, and there are a few who are Special Education and gifted.
Our students love to exercise, but due to the devastation of Hurricane Irma, the parks, and surrounding grounds are still not safe for them to play in. Also, they need to learn how to keep themselves healthy holistically, which means nutrition and health education needs to be incorporated into our P.E. curriculum.
My Project
A few days ago, our P.E. department was fully funded through Donorschoose.org and we will be getting numerous uniforms, sports gear and field day equipment/game supplies very shortly.
Currently, we do not have proper storage for these items and we will need to secure the uniforms, gear, and sports equipment, as well as preserve them.
We are requesting three sets of storage bins to store our cheerleading uniforms, team shirts, skirts, and pants. The classroom space is tight so storage bins that stack upwards would help us save space and help with organizing each team's uniforms and gear easily. Students will be able to easily access and find their uniforms as well know where to place/pack/return them.
