This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever watched and listened to the interactions between young adults. As both a core subject teacher and a health teacher, I feel that it is our students' lack of awareness of the repercussions of their actions that is the most detrimental to their success in school.

My students travel from all different neighborhoods to attend school.

One of the challenges for us as a school community is to unify such a diverse group of young people. More sensitivity towards their actions and speech is a very important component of community building. Many of our students do not have stable home lives and depend on school for more than just "book learning". My students like to joke around, but I think that most adults and some of the students would agree that not everything they say is funny. A movie would be a good context for a discussion about that.

My Project

I think that real life images and stories about bullying will put a real face to the content we discuss in class. It will also provide a vehicle to begin reflecting on experiences within our school and larger community. The movie "Bully" will promote the importance of a more serious outlook towards speech and it's repercussions.

I can't say enough that one of the hardest things I do as a teacher is watch the way my students treat each other.

I would would feel like an accomplished teacher if I could affect change in that regard.
