My Students

I work at a diverse, urban, Title I school in Louisville, Kentucky; our students are African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, and many other races too. We have many students who are learning English as a second language. Our school is in an area with high poverty. More than 93 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

I work with striving readers and writers who, despite their struggles, are eager to learn and work hard each day.

My students face many barriers to academic success, but it is my goal to help them succeed and reach proficiency.

My Project

My students are striving kindergartners, first graders, and second graders. This year these students have blossomed, but they still have more room to grow. My students do not have access to appropriate leveled books at home, therefore my goal is to help keep their love of reading and writing growing by providing them books to read throughout the summer.

These books have familiar characters, repeated text patterns, and focus on everyday adventures that will help engage students and allow them to read independently.

Please help keep these budding readers and writers engaged this summer.
