My Students
Students today need to do more than retain information, they need to create. My students are constantly looking for new and exciting ways to display what they are learning. This project will allow them to do just that.
My classroom is set in a semi-rural town.
The students in my class are a very diverse group, racially, socio-economically, and educationally. My goal in the classroom is to make science fun and nurture my students curiosity of their surroundings in science.
My students love science because they love the outside world and understanding how the Earth works. Because they have spent much of their time outdoors, they have a lot of prior knowledge in the area of science. Many have worked the farm, or helped family members repair automobiles. They just don't have the higher level science experience to prepare them for college or for future careers.
My Project
My students need 6 web cameras and tripods to create stop motion videos of various science topics. This project will allow my students to create stop-motion videos. If you are unfamiliar with stop-motion videos, picture Gumby. Basically, you take a picture of something, then move it slightly and take another picture. When the pictures are put together, it creates an amazing video sequence.
I would like my students to use stop-motion videos to display the various concepts that they learn in our class. This could be showing the motion of plate tectonics, or it could be simulation DNA replication. The possibilities are endless.
This project will inspire our students.
Hopefully in the area of science, but possible in filming. I believe that students are looking to create, but we don't always offer them the opportunity to do so. This project will positively impact our classroom and the lives of many students by giving them a chance to make something that is theirs.
