My Students
Our school serves kindergarten through eighth grade students within the School District of Philadelphia. It is located in a close-knit neighborhood in the city, making our school a point of pride in the community. Our students come from a variety racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, creates an exciting environment for both teaching and learning. We have an excellent Autistic support program in our school which also serves students in surrounding neighborhoods. Additionally, many of our students receive either free or reduced lunch through the federal lunch program.
My role in the school is really fantastic because I get teach technology classes in our computer lab to students in every grade!
Lessons and activities vary greatly based on grade level, but every student arrives to class ready and eager to learn more and more about computers and technology each week.
My Project
My school has a fabulous media lab thanks to a generous donation from WHYY. Our students have been very interested in creating stop motion animation videos with our amazing equipment, but we lack the necessary materials to do so. The Lego Make Your Own Movie Kits and the two reference books would be a perfect fit for our needs!
Working with Legos to create these movies will allow our students to have a meaningful cross-curricular experience!
Students will write stories to be acted out using the Legos, implementing the literacy element to the project. Building the scenes with Legos will incorporate STEM skills. And producing the actual movie will of course entail a great deal of creativity within the arts. Most importantly, making our own movie with Legos will provide a fun, educational experience for the students at Stephen Decatur School!
