My students need a listening center, with a CD and cassette player for the classroom, in order to utilize the CD's that come with our language arts program.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My special needs students face challenges everyday, but the one that we can fix today is giving them full access to their reading program by allowing them to listen to their books on CD or tape. We have the stories, but we don't have a listening center!
My students are part of the Special Day Class at a Title 1 school.
Not only do they have learning disabilities, but they are also English Language Learners. They are some amazing students that work so hard to meet the challenges that I give them every day. Though they have difficulty with meeting grade level standards, that doesn't stop them from trying their best and doing it with humor and grace.
My Project
My students have expressed their desire to have a working listening center in their classroom. We have an abundance of books on tape and CDs in our class, but alas, no CD/tape player. My students know how important it is to be able to listen to the stories we read together in class, both before and after I read them. This will help so much with their comprehension skills and strategies, as well as their language acquisition. And because of the limited space and furniture in my classroom, a mobile listening center will be the perfect fit!
This project is important to me because it will allow my students another way to access the core curriculum.
Because of their disabilities a mobile listening center is another way for them to succeed and we will finally be able to listen to our books on tape again!
