My students come to reading intervention groups every day full of excitement, eager to learn, and ready for what is in store for them that day!
I teach at an elementary school in Central Ohio, and have 29 second and third graders in my daily reading intervention groups.
Our school has students from both suburban and rural communities.
Several of my students receive backpack food ("Blessings in a Backpack") on the weekends for extra help. Despite the many hardships that some face, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They are loving, hard-working, and a joy to be around!
My Project
This year, I am teaching reading instruction in a whole group setting along with my small reading intervention groups. I teach for 30 minutes each day in a 2nd grade classroom and another 30 minutes in a 1st/2nd grade split class. I use my Orton Gillingham training to provide systematic, explicit instruction to each class of students.
Teaching reading whole group can be a bit of a challenge, and these sound box boards will help keep everyone engaged!
They will allow students to break words into sounds, write the letters that make each sound in the box below with their dry erase markers, and then hold up their boards so that I can easily see all students' answers.
When students are actively engaged in their learning, they are better able to retain the information. These boards will help keep them actively engaged each day during my 30 minute lessons!
