This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher in an integrated co-teaching classroom in New York City. Up to 40% of the students in my classroom learn with the support of an individualized education program, or IEP. Counseling, speech, occupational, and physical therapy are services my students receive. Students with disabilities work alongside general education students in a balanced classroom with two classroom teachers.
Beyond academics, the students in my integrated co-teaching classroom learn to advocate for themselves.
Building rapport with my students and fostering a strong classroom community are cornerstones of my teaching practice. Communication and collaboration with parents help strengthen our students. Success should be celebrated!
My Project
Do you remember learning grammar and language skills when you were in school? These are two areas that many of my students greatly struggle with! A website called Teachers Pay Teachers offers digital curriculum resources. I would like to purchase a resource from TPT called "Fifth Grade Grammar and Language Bundle." The TPT gift card from this project will be used to purchase a year-long, complete grammar and language curriculum to support the current literacy curriculum we use. The current program we use is lacking in grammar and language support. Grammar and language skills are difficult for many students - and with a strong population of English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, these two skill areas can be even more challenging for students to acquire. The learning outcome I hope for my students to achieve is stronger language and literacy skills.
Building stronger grammar and language skills will help my students be more successful in their reading, writing, and speaking.
Your contributions to this project will make a direct impact on the language and literacy goals of all the students in my classroom. Thank you for your support and contributions!
