This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every year, my classroom is filled with diverse learners. I have students who are just learning English. I have others with special needs. I also have high achieving students. Within this diverse group, one third come from low income households and receive free/reduced-price lunch.
Although my students are all very different academically, economically, and culturally, my students are all curious and eager to be successful learners!
Our school emphasizes the importance of learning no matter what a child's background is. Each year, we strive to find many different resources for all our students to ensure they have the tools they need to grow and become a college-prepared and career-ready learner.
My Project
Having a new rug will definitely make a difference in my classroom. Every day I gather my students on the rug to discuss our daily agenda. It is a place where my students listen to stories. It is a place where they discuss their mathematical thinking. It is a place where they share their ideas. It is a place where they discuss their feelings. And, it is a place where they sit around and play learning games together.
As you can see, rug time is an essential part of my students' day.
Without a rug, my students would not have the connections they have during this daily gathering.
The rug we currently have has been used for years now. It has many stains and it is meant for primary students. This new vibrant colored rug will help my students and future students of any age continue to grow as learners while having a cozier place to sit.
