This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students at my school come from a wide variety of academic and social-economic backgrounds. The majority of my students struggle to accept that they can learn in a multi-faceted classroom. My students need to have basic supplies like dry erase markers and pencils so we can work together on optimal algebra skills needed for high school.
The use of basic supplies and whiteboards are a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math.
Using a multifactated approach in math, students come together with whiteboards for guided, group, partner, and independent practice. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use. When something goes awry, students know that they must leave their group quietly to get a new marker, new eraser, or the last choice, pencil, and paper. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction from either myself or other students.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. This project will allow students to create and solve math equations on a daily basis. Supplying these basics to students will instill trust, respect, responsibility, and freedom. Students will no longer say, "I can't do this without the supplies...." Instead, they will be grateful and eager to learn and have a successful 8th-grade year!
