My Students

If you were ever bullied as a child you know the tremendous impact that it had on you and your learning. Bullying happens everywhere and the only way to ensure that all students have a safe place to learn and socialize is to teach them how to prevent and deal with bullies.

My students live in South Central Los Angeles.

They attended a title one school where 98% of the students qualify for free federally funded lunches. They come from hard working families that trust the public school system to educated their children and keep them safe. They live in a economically disadvantaged neighborhood. Most children only have the bare essentials for survival: a roof over their head and food. For the most part many cannot afford school supplies and books. My students always amaze me. They come to school ready to learn and face challenges with smiles and courage. They work hard and want to achieve academically. Most of my students are English Language Learners who were only introduced to English when they started school.

My Project

I am requesting, "Bullying in School," to arm my students with different strategies to deal with bullying. I want to introduce them to role playing different scenarios where one student will take the role of the bully and the other will be the bullied. Role playing will help them practice what to say and how to act if bulling ever happens to them. I want to teach my students that bullying in schools is not acceptable and that it needs to be stopped. In addition, I am also requesting a collection of 16 other anti-bullying books that will help depict bullying in school. I will read the books aloud to my students, then discuss what was done in the book to resolve the problem. I will also use the books to have students write reflections on how they think the person being bullied felt and what they can do to prevent bulling from happening to them. I am also requesting a mobile book organizer to house an anti-bullying library to which all students will have access to.

The best way to prevent bullying is through education.

Please fund this project so that my students will become educated on how to appropriately act if they are ever bullied. I want my students to know where they can ask for help and how to stand up for themselves in an assertive and positive manner. Please help my students have a safe learning environment in the classroom and on the school yard, this will ensure that learning is their top priority in school
