This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyone knows a bully or can tell a story about one from elementary school. Think of all the damage that bullying causes in schools year after year. I want this to be the year it stops! I want all my students to learn how to effectively deal with bullies and to take appropriate measures.

My students live in South Central Los Angeles.

Their neighborhood is surrounded with factories and gang graffiti. They attended a school that is only in its 2nd year of operation and due to state budget cuts it lacks some of the resources that other school offer. They attend a Title One school which is declared because most if its students qualify for free federally funded lunches. My students are smart and always smiling. They are eager to please and learn. They want to change their environment by providing services to the community and within their school. They want to make a positive impact on their fellow lower grade schoolmates and make school pleasant for everyone.

My Project

I am requesting "Bullying in Schools" to teach my students different strategies that they can apply in case they are being bullied. "Bullying in Schools" will help students understand why bullies act in a certain way. Teaching students about empathy is important and this is a great way to start. In addition, I am also requesting other fourth grade titles that will depict different scenarios where bullying takes place. Students will listen to stories read aloud and then write reflections on how the characters in the stories deal with bullies and the lessons learned. Furthermore, I am also requesting a Sony camcorder so that students can share their learnings and anti-bullying message with other 4th and 5th grade students. Students will use the camcorder to record an anti-bullying messages to share with other classes. They will record themselves acting out different scenarios where bullying takes place and the appropriate ways to deal with it.

Please help my students stop bullying at our school.

"Bullying in Schools," is a resource that will help prevent bullying. It will also help my students deal with bullying in an appropriate way. I want my students to take a stance and teach other students that bullying is not acceptable. Please help my student create a safe learning environment for themselves and their peers.
