My Students
I teach first graders at a Title 1 school. Many students in my class come from low income families and some are English language learners . They are creative, eager to learn, and very energetic.
My students love to build, create, and use their imagination.
They are hard workers. At times I have to remind them to take a break or they may miss the designated recess time. I want to give them opportunities to express their creativity and make learning fun.
My Project
Fall and winter bring harsh snowy and rainy weather to our city. This means many inside recess days for my students. First graders are very active and like to work with their hands. We have only a few building blocks in our classroom and this makes it hard for my students to have ample opportunities to express creativity, develop logical thinking, and fine-motor skills.
My students need a variety of building materials to help them express their creativity and develop their problem-solving skills and social interaction skills.
A magnetic letter kit will help my students express their ideas. A marble run will help my students plan and think as they build workable tracks. The interlocking brain flakes will help them develop spatial thinking and building skills. The wooden block sets and the Dreambuilder magnetic building block STEM sets will help develop critical thinking skills as well as fine motor skills.
A variety of construction materials will have a positive impact on my students and make inside recess times very valuable.
