My Project
My inner-city students come from various backgrounds, and English is not always their native language. We are a Title I school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
The children in my class come to school eager to learn and work hard because school is a safe place for them.
While my students are gaining reading skills they need to use reading strategies to improve their reading. A skill that really encourages kids to bring their reading strategies to the forefront is when they are actively reading using stop and jot on post-its to write out their thoughts and wonders.
Some of them often report they are upset when they miss a day of school.
It is also one of their favorite places to be. My students are often at a disadvantage due to the lack of supplies provided by the district.
