My Students

I teach 5th grade ELA and Science at a STEM Academy in Georgia. I teach a wide range of students from EIP to Gifted but all my students are very talented in their own ways. We strive to do as much learning through STEM/STEAM activities as possible and my students love using problem-solving strategies and hands-on lessons. We also try to integrate our curriculum as much as possible so in my room we teach many reading skills through the science material to help reinforce both subjects.

I'm always on the lookout for creative and beneficial ways to meet my students' needs.

Many of my students come from low-income communities and were accepted to my school based on academic performance. They have a passion for learning but lack the resources they need to be successful. Help me help my students to reach their full potential!

My Project

Students spend the majority of their school day seated at a desk, unable to move or stretch out. This means our kiddos get antsy a lot quicker and start to lose focus on their work. In order to combat that restlessness, I like to have flexible seating options in my room.

One great option is to use taller stools for small groups.

This allows them to move to a new place in the room, try out a new sitting position, or they can even choose to stand at my elevated small group table. Being able to move and change positions helps the students engage more in the lesson because they're less focused on how uncomfortable their body is.
