My Project
We are a public, Pre-K through 8th-grade Montessori school which is part of a large urban district in Ohio. Our school is comprised of students all over our city, which has the 6th highest poverty rate in the nation. Our Montessori students follow a child-centered approach with a goal to develop each child physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively, allowing students to learn in collaborative groups. A key component of their Montessori education is the hands-on learning and student choice.
Part of our path to full Montessori accreditation is to keep students working through long work cycles.
The kids get hungry and frequently request snacks. I have over 400 students and it is hard to keep up with the requests for snacks on my own. Having a wide variety of bars, crackers, and fruit snacks will give them the energy to keep going. Snack-size cookie packs can be used as rewards for finished work. We love to use bubble gum when we are typing as we earn badges in Typing Club and as rewards when we pass our typing tests. Our robotics team comes to school an hour early every morning and their hot cocoa bar boosts attendance and happiness.
