it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 5 classes of Honors Biology at a public, selective enrollment middle school in Chicago. My students are 8th graders at KA Academic Center where they are given the opportunity to take advanced high school classes in middle school. All of my students are taking 9th grade Honors Biology as 8th graders. They come from many neighborhoods across the city, but most of them are from the South Side of Chicago. They are hardworking, highly motivated students, but not all of them have the resources to get the materials they need for themselves or to contribute to our classroom supplies. Therefore, I am asking for basic supplies and materials that all students can use, regardless of their family's socioeconomic status.
In my class, coloring supplies are used regularly as students create models of biological structures and systems, such as different types of cells and body systems.
They use binders, dividers, notecards, and red pens regularly to organize their learning materials and and correct their notes for studying purposes. They use highlighters and pencils daily to annotate informational texts and answer comprehension, analysis, and application questions in every lesson. Kleenex and hand sanitizer helps keep our learning space clean and safe, especially during flue season. Paper towels help students with post-lab clean-up responsibilities. The headphones help keep students engaged with instructional videos and allows diverse learners to access read-aloud features. The lab trays will help keep our lab materials organized and the learning space safe because they are sturdy enough to support the weight of glass beakers filled with our lab chemicals. As you see, every item on this list fills a need in my classroom for my students.
Please consider helping me stock up my science classroom for student success! Thank you for your generosity in advance :)
