This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title 1 school outside of Los Angeles where our students come to school ready to learn. Many of our students are at or below the poverty line, receiving free or reduced breakfast and lunch. They don't have many opportunities to go outside of our valley, so I try to design lessons where I can take them around the world within the confines of our classroom.
My room is full of students who are eager to exercise their brains and participate in discussions to the best of their abilities.
I emphasize having a growth mindset early on each year, so students know there are no limitations to what they're able to achieve, regardless of where they stand in August at the beginning of the year.
My Project
As we continue to ease into the beginning of the school year, we are in need of replenishing some of our most used supplies.
Being a ProjectGLAD classroom means I go through many rolls of kraft paper and an assortments of markers as I make anchor charts, pictorial inputs, cognitive content dictionaries, and sentence patterning charts, just to name a few.
These instructional tools help enhance my lessons and allow students to have a deeper understanding of the social studies and science standards I'm covering. We're also in need of headsets with microphones so we can use our new web-based intervention program to its full capacity.
