Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These students love to be at school. They love to learn, and they love being an important part of their community. Nearly all the students that attend our school live in low-income households. Despite the enormous challenges they face on a daily basis, they come to school, work hard, and continually push to make everyone they love and care about proud.

Donations to this project will be giving students a wide variety of opportunities to explore and develop mathematical and scientific thinking through hands on trial and error learning and development.

STEM bins are plastic school boxes filled with an engineering manipulatives and a task card that challenges students to build a structure, solve a problem, or create a tool using the materials provided in the bin.

The craft sticks, pipe cleaners, dough, cardboard shapes, cotton balls, rubber bands, and paper clips, in this project will provide students with opportunities to build, count, compute, hypothesize, apply, create, modify, and improve on their own ideas so they can grow in their mathematical and scientific thinking as they tackle STEM challenges. The magnetic hooks and curtain clips will hold the STEM challenge cards up so students can easily refer to the task as they build.

When students have opportunities to build prototypes, analyze functionality, ask questions, develop solutions, adjust thinking, and revise ideas, they fall in love with math and science. These early learning opportunities will provide students with their own personal connections to and admiration for STEM.
