Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 8th grade Social Studies in one of the largest middle schools in our district. My mission as an educator goes far beyond just teaching history—I work every day to make sure my students feel safe, seen, and cared for in my classroom. This year, I’ve expanded my student station to include basic hygiene items, in addition to essential classroom supplies like pencils, highlighters, tissues, and paper towels. These may seem like small things, but research—and real life—shows us that when students don’t have access to basic hygiene products, they can become targets for bullying or teasing. This can lead to embarrassment, low self-esteem, and even school avoidance. No child should ever have to feel that way just because of something out of their control. Providing these essentials allows every student to have the opportunity to learn, focus, and participate without fear or shame. It’s my belief that every child deserves to come to school feeling clean, confident, and ready to learn. I would also never want a student to miss out or fall behind simply because they didn't have a pencil or highlighter. Your support helps remove these barriers—no matter how small they may seem—to ensure that all students have what they need to succeed.
