This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is for at-risk kids that works under the Seeds of Health, Inc. program. We are located in Milwaukee, an urban area, and are open to students who meet the "at-risk" criteria. Our students are considered at-risk of not graduating high school for a wide variety of reasons. Many have tried traditional high schools in the inner city previously and have been unsuccessful there. A majority of my students are living in poverty and dealing with the many issues that stem from that. Often they don’t natively speak English, have gone through severe losses, such as their parents or caretakers, or they have children of their own. They are the kindest, funniest people you could ever meet whose behaviors mirror their need to survive their particular situations. Every day our students are willing to put aside their differences, whether they are cognitive, socioeconomic, racial, gang based, or otherwise, in order to gain their education. Our school is an alternative one specifically designed for students who are deficient in credits, academic skills, an understanding of behavioral norms, and emotional support.

My Project

My students may have a lot going on outside of the classroom, but when they walk in the door, they are eager to learn. These basic supplies will make it possible for my students to come to a classroom that is equipped with everything they need to be successful. Not worrying about pencils, paper, and poster makes it easier for students to focus on what truly matters, learning.

Keeping the classroom stocked and organized is my job, and these supplies will be a great help!

From writing warm-ups and to completing creative long-term projects throughout the school year, these supplies will allow my students to reach their highest achievement.
