Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a high poverty school in the midst of apartments and single family homes. Over fifty percent of the students are from low-income homes and they are on the free or reduced price lunch plan. I have a diverse group of students from many ethnic backgrounds.
Science experiments motivate our class.
Bill Nye the science guy is our favorite scientist to watch. Solving problems and looking for solutions gets us excited. We are the engineers and the scientists of the future.
My Project
Our class will be involved in STEM projects that require putting on both creative and analytical hats to solve problems. I would like to teach kids to make connections between the science in what they are studying rather than explore them in isolation.
Stixplosion is a project using popsicle sticks with rubber bands to study the effects of stored up energy.
It's a wonderful experiment using potential energy and kinetic energy for kindergarten students. We will make hypothesis and record it in the science journal. We will also research environmental science on the kinetic energy in magnetism and other scientific research.
