Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would love my students to have access to a sewing club to foster creativity, sustainability, and self-expression. I’m requesting six sewing machines to empower them to design original garments, up-cycle old clothing and fabric, and create costumes for school performances and themed events. With reliable machines, students will gain hands-on experience in sewing, construction, and design, as well as skills that are both practical and inspiring. Having access to reliable sewing machines will allow them to engage deeply with their projects and take pride in what they create.
Using the sewing machines that will be the heart of our club, students will design and craft original pieces.
They will sew clothing, exploring fashion that showcase their unique identities and interests. They will up-cycle old garments into new, stylish pieces, learning sustainability and creativity through transformation. They will create costumes for school plays, musicals, and themed events, supporting the arts program in our school. They will construct accessories like bags, scrunchies, and hats, giving them fun, approachable projects to practice their skills. They will prepare looks for a student-led fashion show, where they can showcase their work and celebrate their growth.
My goal is to provide a space where students can build confidence, learn valuable life skills, and discover the joy of bringing their ideas to life. Through the sewing club, they’ll explore fashion, reuse materials in creative ways, and solve design challenges by collaborating and learning from each other.
What makes my students special is their incredible enthusiasm and imagination. They’re bursting with ideas and eager to learn, and they need the proper tools to make their creative dreams a reality. With your support, I can offer them the opportunity to design original pieces, express themselves through crafting, and gain sewing skills that will stay with them for life.
