I teach 4th grade at a Title I school that is located in South Louisiana. I have wonderful students in my class who love to learn. My school is very dynamic and all of our fourth grade teachers work together to make one-on-one and tactile learning possible for our students.
4th grade is a high-stakes testing year. The children prepare all year for the LEAP test and they must pass it to move on to 5th grade. I strive to find new classroom technology to make learning fun for my students. We are desperately in need of computers for my students. I have only one computer in the front of the classroom which I use for everything. This includes all of my computer work as well as any work that the students need to do. They love using the computer and they have been so kind and patient with each other about taking turns. My class takes AR tests to accumulate reading points and to do this they MUST have access to a computer. The children would voluntarily miss their recesses in order to take the AR tests because they know that is the only time it is not in use! The computers I am requesting are portable and can go from desk to desk. The students can use them for everything from their AR testing to practicing classwork to doing reports. I had students last year who would do reports just for fun! Having computers would stimulate their interests and allow them to be creative in their learning. I have tons of awesome computer programs and clip art which they would love to use to create projects or practice their skills.
The computers I am requesting are:
(1) HP G60-440US 16" Widescreen Notebook Computer With Intel® Pentium® Processor T4300
320GB hard drive stores thousands of songs, photos and documents. Large 3GB memory lets you run demanding programs.
16" diagonal widescreen BriteView LCD.
Memory card reader for fast, easy transfers.
(2) HP Mini 110-1012NR XP Edition 10.1" Widescreen Netbook Computer With Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 Compact and ultra-lightweight. 10.1" diagonal widescreen LED antiglare display. The LED display offers lighter weight, higher contrast and lower power consumption than typical LCD screens. Antiglare feature helps reduce reflections.
16GB storage capacity for your files and programs. Files are stored on a lightweight solid state flash module, rather than on a hard drive. 1GB memory lets you run your programs.
My students have dreams of college and understand that an education is their way to success. I strive to build relationships with my parents so they know that I will mentor their children throughout their lives, not just in 4th grade. I love my students and it is important to me that they succeed not only in 4th grade, but in life.
In the last 4 years I have spent over $4000 of my own money buying uniforms, shoes, eyeglasses, and other things that my students need. I try to care for each child as I would my own children. This grant would go far in helping the children learn. Thank you so much for your kind consideration of my request.
