My Project
Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain. My young preschool students thrive on sensory learning and play!
One of the main benefits of sensory play for preschoolers is that it encourages them to use their senses to explore their environment and discover new things.
I plan to use the requested sensory items throughout the day in my preschool classroom. Students can access these items for calming purposes, free play, and during teacher lessons. My students come to preschool with many different needs and learning styles. I have many students with learning disabilities, sensory needs, and behavior issues. Students come from low-income homes with limited access to the toys and tools they need to help their children learn, play, and regulate their feelings. Sensory play is crucial for emotional development as it allows children to explore the world through their senses, providing a therapeutic outlet for emotions, promoting self-regulation, and helping them process feelings that may be difficult to express verbally, ultimately leading to better emotional understanding and coping mechanisms; it also encourages creativity and self-regulation.
The items I have requested will be such a benefit to the students in my classroom. Along with supporting their learning, these items will support their emotional growth and learning as well. Our classroom is a play-based learning environment that also focuses on social and emotional learning. I do everything I can to teach and reach all students at their level and with tools that are most effective for them. Children are coming to us with so many more different needs and struggles than ever before and I want to make sure I have everything I can available in my classroom to make their learning journey fun and successful.
