Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our kindergarten students love arts and crafts. We like to illustrate our imaginations and create our own art piece. We enjoy showing it off to others by displaying it in the hallway bulletin boards. Although we are not good with fine motor coordination, cutting, gluing, painting and drawing makes us world famous artists.

We are a high poverty school in the midst of apartments and single family homes.

Over fifty percent of the students are from low income homes and they are on the free/reduced-price lunch program. I have a diverse group of students from many ethnic backgrounds. More than half of the students are English learners. Our school is in the high poverty zone.

My Project

Every year, I look to fill my art supplies and every year I have few favorite places to shop. One of the go-to places is Quill. My kindergarten students love to create and use their imaginations. My challenge is giving them tools and supplies to make their creation come to life.

The first step in the writing process for kindergarten is illustration.

We spend many hours drawing and coloring the perfect scenario that will map out our thoughts onto the paper. Our class need arts and craft materials that would enhance their story. Therefore, our class needs oil pastels to color the flower gardens, gel pens to draw fairies, wiggly eyes to make monsters come alive, and paper bags to invent space shuttles.

By funding this project, our class can continue to have fun illustrating and learning the first step in the writing process. It's good to know that there are supporters who understand the importance of art. Thank you in advance for making it possible.
