My Students

I have 32 wonderful and bright students. They are all eager to learn many things in kindergarten. As a new teacher, I am motivated to bring new and exciting ideas into the classroom. I teach low-income students in a Chicago neighborhood. My school is great; unfortunately, it lacks necessary funding that is greatly needed. The principal and the staff are great to work with. We all help each other in order to benefit student learning, which is most important to me as an educator. Without funding, the students are not given the accurate amount of supplies needed to complete the school year.

I teach ESL students reading, math, writing, social studies, and science.

My students love participating in centers for reading and math, but I would love to incorporate a writing center filled with the right materials.

My Project

Art has long been recognized as an important part of a well-rounded education, but when it comes down to setting budget priorities, the arts rarely rise to the top. With the high budget cuts in the Chicago Public School system my students do not have enough supplies and materials to do art in the classroom. The budget we are given is only for academics such as math and reading. I believe that it is important for children in kindergarten to still have fun and play at school at this age level.

I believe that integrating arts into other subjects makes learning come alive!

If my students were given these materials, I would be able to create more of a fun filled environment in the classroom. The Crayola Washable paints will be used throughout the year for projects such as Father's and Mother's Day projects, our math "Line of Symmetry" project, and some free time paint! The picture frames will be used to decorate and post pictures of my students all around the classroom and for Mother's Day. Who doesn't love getting pictures of their kiddos as gifts?! The rings will be used to c I love doing projects and arts and crafts in my classroom but without the necessary budget, it is hard to do so. My students enjoy painting, coloring, drawing and making wonderful projects to take home for their parents. My students are always so excited when we are able to do an art project because we do not get to do them often. With your donation, my students will be able to do more art projects in the classroom and enjoy school more; just the way it should be!
