My students need hot glue guns and glue sticks to complete several of their science projects.

My Students
Have you ever had to make something stick without the right type of glue? Well, in order to create critters that exhibit the characteristics of life using recycled materials, the students need hot glue and low temperature glue guns.
My students are inquisitive, imaginative, and creative 7th graders.
They love learning about science and truly benefit from applying the science concepts we study through doing hands-on projects. They are as diverse as trees in a forest. Some are tiny saplings while others are giant redwoods! They attend a school that is located in a high poverty area with a large population of migrant farm workers. (76% of our district qualifies for free and reduced lunch.)
My Project
My students do many projects that require "sticking science" together! One project is to create an unknown of critter that performs the characteristics of life. They develop a written description of their critter as a review for the characteristics of life. They the gather recyclable (or gently used) materials (as this allows all kids to have access to "critter creating" items)and bring them to class. Here they build their creature. My photo is an example of one. If you look closely you can see the masking tape (that keeps falling off)as my last glue gun quit working.
Middle school students learn very well through their fingertips.
The hands-on and creative projects they can do enhance the basic science concepts that are being taught. The students in my district do not have the financial ability to provide some of the most basic materials. Having glue guns and glue sticks will be a blessing, save time and will help the students create quality, long-lasting projects.
