My 9th graders hail from various parts of the world because many of them are children of brave servicemen and women based in Columbus, Georgia.
As a result, their perspectives are global, which poses a challenge when they meet classmates who may not have ever left their city. To help students from diverse backgrounds understand that people are generally more alike than different, I want to encourage them to walk in another person's shoes and support all of them in becoming global citizens.
My Project

I want to encourage students to be global citizens by walking in another person's shoes, seeing their need, and supporting them through service.
When students step up to serve others, they develop empathy and empower themselves at the same time.
The service learning guides will help students understand the basic steps to creating and organizing service learning activities. The headphones with microphones will help students merge their technology skills with their critical thinking and writing skills as they collaborate in the creation of podcast and video media to generate support for their projects. Using podcasts, apps, and a t-shirt maker, these tools will facilitate collaboration, communication, and creativity, which are skills of the 21st century.
My students need a sense of belonging and solidarity. In order to accomplish this, they need the Cricut Maker to design t-shirts their groups can wear when they are out together. This will further their creativity and technology skills in a different medium.
