Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I see a total of seven classes daily. As one class exits my science lab another is standing by the door waiting to enter. I need materials that are ready to go that will meet the needs of the students and are aligned to the stem curriculum that is expected. We need a variety of resources.

The majority of my students are from low economic families, and are on free and or reduced lunch.

The current students at our school are for the most part, younger siblings, children or grandchildren of former students. In other words, our school is definitely a beloved neighborhood school. The population of the school is about 99% Hispanic, as is the neighborhood. The majority of our students lack many of the necessary skills needed to be successful in reading and science. These are our target areas for this school year. Our school is trying very hard to address these deficits. The students are always eager and excited when given an opportunity to explore new and interesting activities.

My Project

My students are not grouped by ability, so those who are low in some ares are still able to participate in the group activities and feel successful. Everyone has a job in the lab, that helps the group move smoothly. The Lead Investigator 's job is to insure that all are participating. Self contained kits and activities makes that job easier. The rule is, all hands on the deck, or table. Students will be able to work more independently by setting out these ready made activities. The students work in cooperative groups of four. These materials will enhance their sense of the Scientific Method as they work through these activities. The STEM activities work across multiple disciplines, building mastery in all contents. This will increase the STEM status of my lab. These colorful, interesting activities will encourage the students to dig in and dive deeper into learning science!

Please don't hesitate to become a donor.

Our students are hungry for learning science. These materials will ensure a colorful, engaging and inviting atmosphere. All children learn better when there is a healthy and caring atmosphere. Just the sight of something new, opens up the minds to fun and enjoyment. Ready made activities provide a fresh new look and reduces planning time. Storage is much improved as well, which cuts down on clutter. All of this is much needed in my classroom.
