My students need everyday necessities such as school uniforms and under garments to feel warm and comfortable.

My Students
Every day I greet students with a hug and a smile at the door. We start off with circle time. Students are able to express their feelings in a circle. This technique helps with the social/emotional aspect of their lives. We engage in rich text that helps with reading, writing, and expressing ideas.
They are students who are products of generational poverty, but every day strive to do their best.
They are children who are always wanting more, and never allow their challenges to prevent them from learning and striving to be all that they can be. My scholars are very outspoken, and enjoy having their voices heard. I call them the "great debaters" because they would rather verbally complete tasks with groups versus independent practices on a worksheet. They all enjoy hands-on learning. They love for their work to be displayed around the school or on bulletin boards. Our school is such a family-oriented environment. Every staff member takes responsibility for each child's well being. It is never my students; it is always our students.
My Project
As I sit typing this over my holiday break, I can only think about the needs of my students. What seems so basic to many of us;my students are in desperate need of.
Many days my students come with clothes that are not clean and they tell their peers that their baby brother wasted milk or juice on them because they are afraid of being judged or ridiculed for clothes that haven't been washed in over a month.
My students are always excited for "wash day" at the laundromat which usually only happens at the beginning of each month when their parents receive funds.
No child should ever have to wake up in unclean clothing. I am so thankful for hot running water and clean clothing, and as crazy as it may sound I thank God each time I put a load of clothes into my washing machine because about 90% of the children I teach don't even have running water. It truly breaks my heart that a child in 2018 is still waking up to these conditions in America.
Cheers to my scholars stepping in 2018 with all of their basic needs being exceeded.
