My students need a Max Storage Royal Reading/Writing Center for reading big books, doing small group board work, for large group discussions, and for magnetic writing.
I teach a first grade of fantastic children who do not let poverty wear them down. They are full of hope and I try to inspire them to reach for the stars. My children want an area in their room where they can work on the board and do many different activities. We are an inner city school with a very poor population. The children have very few possessions and often come to school in the winter with only little jackets on. Most don't have socks and few have hats or shoes. To have a special work area that they can use is a special dream of theirs. They want to succeed and try everyday to learn many new things but we don't always have the space available for independent practice.
My students need an area of the classroom where they can do a variety of activities and do not need to constantly move to different centers to complete the tasks. We are a very poor school with very limited resources. We have a small blackboard for writing and it is used to display our daily objectives. The children have to use big pieces of chart paper to do their daily blending activities then move into small groups to work with the teacher or work independently. They have no area to work as a small group without interfering with the independent workers. They have no magnetic boards to use for making words, sentences or other activities. The activities that require big books are done with me balancing a book in front of the class. They can't balance the book to read it by themselves.
The center I requested has all the areas that would allow my students maximum learning space in a small classroom. The center has a magnetic board for working on word building, a white board for blending and writing practice, an area for big books that has an easel to hold them, and storage space for markers, pencils, magnetic pieces, big books and paper. The children will be able to do all types of activities as well as work with the teacher on blending skills or in small groups.
Your generous donation will fulfill the dreams of 24 very special students who look forward to having a fantastic new learning area in their classroom where they can do a multitude of activities at the same time.
