My Project
A sensory room is a vital space for students with autism, providing them with a safe and controlled environment to regulate their sensory needs. To maintain cleanliness and ensure safety, it is essential for all students to remove their shoes and wear socks in this space. Shoes can track in dirt, germs, and allergens which can create an unclean and distracting environment. By requiring socks, we help eliminate messes, prevent dirt from accumulating, and create a hygienic space that promotes health and well-being. Many students with autism have heightened sensitivities, making a clean and organized environment even more crucial for their comfort.
To support this effort, students will use the ottomans being requested as a designated area to sit, remove their shoes, and put on their socks before entering the sensory room.
These ottomans will provide a comfortable and structured space for this transition, ensuring that students can easily follow the routine while keeping the environment clean. Having a clear process in place allows students to feel more comfortable and secure as they prepare to engage in sensory activities.
It is important to recognize that students with autism are special and deserve an environment tailored to their unique needs. Some families may not have the means to provide socks for their children, and we want every student to have an equal opportunity to benefit from the sensory room.
Our goal is to supply enough socks for the entire department so that no child is excluded from this valuable experience. By working together to maintain a clean and supportive space, we can help students thrive, feel comfortable, and enjoy the full benefits of the sensory room.
