My Project
Help my students explore real-world science concepts, build problem-solving skills, and spark creativity with hands-on STEM tools like LEGOs, sound-activated magnetic tiles, 3D pens, and more.
We are a Title I school in urban Louisville, our students face significant challenges—poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to resources.
Yet, they show up every day eager to learn, create, and explore. Our library is their safe space—a place where curiosity is celebrated and every child feels seen.
This project will elevate our makerspace, giving students the chance to design and build. These tools will bring STEM concepts to life and allow students to learn by doing—testing ideas, working together, and developing critical thinking skills along the way.
My goals are to spark creativity, deepen STEM understanding, and foster collaboration. With 100% of our students receiving free lunch, over 80% economically disadvantaged, nearly 20% receiving special education services, and 17% multilingual learners, our students deserve learning opportunities that reflect their potential—not their circumstances.
Every item in this project has been selected with their needs, interests, and dreams in mind. I’ve seen their eyes light up when using these kinds of tools, and I know what a difference it makes in their confidence and engagement.
As the 2025 School Library Journal Librarian of the Year, I’m honored to be recognized for this work—but it’s the everyday moments in the library that matter most. With your help, we can keep building a joyful, inclusive space where kids can dream big and discover just how far their creativity can take them.
