My Students

My students are a diverse learning community with a wide variety of learning styles and needs. They come from many different socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Even with our differences, we form a classroom culture with a passion for learning and mutual respect.

Fourth graders are savvy students and have developed a sense of what they find interesting and how they like to learn best.

Any time that I can engage them with a puzzle or challenge, they always rise to the task. My students have begun to make sense of their world and are making generalizations about ideas and concepts. They naturally love to test out their theories and share their ideas with each other.

My Project

My students have an innate sense of curiosity and wonder about their world. At times, I have noticed this curiosity become stifled when they become focused on getting "the right answer". I wish to build their confidence about making new discoveries and their perseverance while problem solving. I want them to understand that often in life it is the journey of learning that is more important than the end result.

This donation will provide my students with a variety of STEM based learning opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, team work and problem solving skills.

These kits and resources feature engineering, science, math and writing activities. They will have opportunities to create solutions to problems, discuss them with each other, test out their ideas, and explain their thinking orally or in writing. All the materials are highly engaging and help students to get over a fear of "failure" and focus on their abilities as thinkers.
