My students need Apple IPads, IPad cases and a subscription to Time for Kids magazine to delve more deeply in to STEM studies through non-fiction exploration.

My Students
What are plants made of? How far away is the sun? Who invented computers? Why do computers make noise? Why do we need algebra? How many stars are in the sky? ... Sound familiar? That's what a classroom full of science loving, mathematics seeking, technology integrated kids sounds like!
My students are amazing!
They are eager and excited to be at school, They laugh and play through the day while I am engaging them in activities that take learning away from textbooks and slide shows and into their world, their universe!
Our school is located within a tight knit community that is embracing the great diversity within our city. Most students at our school receive free or reduced lunch. We also have a growing special needs population with needs ranging from minimal daily assistance, to constant medical attention. The diversity of our students in abilities, ethnic background, and learning styles keeps our school moving in positive directions developing goals and dreams with our students while providing them the most well planned, exciting, and integrative academic experience possible. Our students, regardless of exceptionalities, have no limitations. We strive each and every day for success for all students.
My Project
My classroom houses 25 second graders. They come from many different backgrounds and family situations. As their teacher, I sometimes struggle with getting technology in their hands. Although they are familiar with utilizing technology, many of their families are unable to own any of their own beyond a cell phone. With the help of donors like you, I can continue to bring STEM education into my classroom through the use of the IPads we are requesting. With these IPads we can locate apps and websites that would allow us to delve more deeply into scientific exploration. We will be able to explore non-fiction like never before through e-reading applications. We are also hoping to receive the protective covers to keep our IPads safe (and working) for years to come!
Lastly, we would be so thankful to receive TIME for Kids Magazine. This magazine offers additional insight into STEM education through it's use of non-fiction as a guide for daily instruction.
This project will change the way I teach science in my classroom.
Rather than teaching a lesson and doing research as a whole class on the board, students will be able to take their learning into their own hands and conduct their own research be it through a website, an encyclopedia app, an e-reader text, or even a game! Technology is the way of our future and science and mathematics are the foundation to which it is built upon. Please help me build a stronger foundation for my students.
