Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Not all students are artists, but most love to create, whether it is through drawing, doodling, or even folding. I am requesting funds to purchase a Cricut Maker 3, along with supplies to go with it, to support the design process with a goal of instilling a sense of entrepreneurship, replete with pitches and bartering or even fundraising. One thing I love most about my students as learners is what they bring to the education "tables." New language and varied learners often have a fresh point of view, and my students readily accept the challenges of technical processes; that is to say, they thrive on hands-on invention and innovation.
Seeing their own creations go from being two dimensional to three dimensional on the Cricut Maker 3 will not only instill a sense of accomplishment, but pride and originality.
For example, we study space and engineering. Students can
create a prototype of their work in the Cricut, and some may take it one step farther making wearable pieces. We will use a " Shark Tank" type of environment to enable a panel of students to ask questions as well as to request finances (imaginary) to begin their companies.
The learning journey will begin with hands-on design, lead into research, continue with machine input, and end with independent thinkers who have the ability to change their own future finances and even those of our school.
