My Project

My Project

My students are my world!

As a special education teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom daily.

Despite these challenges, I seekto provide my students with positive & meaningful learning experiences.

They love STEM activities and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I focus on their strengths, not their disabilities! I may not be able to control their home lives, but, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. I am fortunate enough to be able to spend time with my students every day! By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue a path of academic success.

I would love to be able to show my students how wonderful STEM activities can be and how careers in these fields can be so interesting! I want them to realize that they are capable of producing amazing work and to always strive for their best.

Through using STEM tools and engaging in activities using them, they would be able to widen their knowledge base using STEM tools that they can relate to at their cognitive level.
