This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an 8th-grade math teacher at a Title 1 school, I have the honor of teaching an incredible group of students from a wide range of backgrounds—many of whom are emergent bilinguals still learning the English language. For these students, math can be a universal language, one they can master, even if they’re still developing their English skills. With the help of visual tools like graph paper, colored pencils, and clear models, students can connect to math concepts in powerful and accessible ways.

Eighth grade is a turning point, a time when students often decide whether math is for them or not.

My goal is to make sure every student in my classroom leaves feeling confident and capable of calling themselves a "math person." These supplies will help make abstract concepts more tangible, learning more inclusive, and math more enjoyable for all.
