My students need plant labs & quickies for science, interactive math software for technology, a Build & Learn kit for engineering, and instant learning centers for math.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager for Science,Technology, Engineering, & Math. Let's engage them in more STEM through mobile plant labs & science games, interactive math software, hands-on building and problem-solving activities, and fun math games. This STEM project will prep them to be 21st century learners.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Malcolm X, "Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today." I completely agree with his belief and this STEM project will help my students achieve academic success through the use of hands-on, problem-solving, and critical thinking games and activities.
I am a third grade teacher in a suburban community in Southern California. My students come from lower socio-economic households. Ninety-seven percent of our student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Many of our students require after school support and/or child care due to their family circumstances. Despite these factors, my students come to school eager to learn new skills that they can apply to daily problem-based activities, hands-on explorations, and creations which in turn helps them think critically and prepare to be college and career ready.
My Project
The materials from this project will help support my students' learning. This project will allow me to provide STEM centers for my students. I am requesting plant labs for students to examine and record plant growth and change as they visit this center. I am also requesting math interactive software so that students can practice time, measurement, fractions, place-value, and counting money. I plan on setting up a math games and activity center for students to practice math concepts and skills. Students will also visit the engineering station, where students can create, build, and learn as they explore with the hands-on geometry kit.
I'm looking forward to seeing this small investment of STEM materials play a huge role in my students' future. I just know that my students will be ecstatic to learn that new materials are on there way to help support their 21st century learning.
Although the end of our academic school year is soon approaching, my students are still eager to learn, especially when it comes to STEM.
I know that the materials in this project will entice them even more to come to school and be ready to apply skills they are learning. Through these materials I believe all my students will find a love for STEM and be successful in mastering skills they learn as they apply them through interactive discovery, play, and problem solving.
