Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine being 4 or 5 years old and starting school on a Zoom screen? We can't either, but it's what we are about to embark upon as kindergarten teachers this year!
Our sweet students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a large array of experiences to our classrooms and school.
Our school is a Title I urban school with the most diverse population in our district. Over 66% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch. School becomes a safe haven for these scholars - where expectations are the same every day and their basic needs are met. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun. We hope that we can provide these resources for them to access at home as well.
My Project
As my wonderful students are working so diligently from home, I want to give them an opportunity to explore and learn and create with one another. A way that I can do this is by creating STEM kits for them to have at home and for us to use during out live instruction daily.
These kits include all sorts of amazing tools such as bear counters and magnetic sticks (along with other items from a previously funded project), and will allow my students to use their imagination and share their creations with each other.
The TpT gift cards will allow me to purchase STEM and science units that will help me to direct their thinking and learning, even at a distance. I have had so much positive feedback from families about this project, and know that it will make a huge difference in our learning at home together!
